I’ve always been transgendered, of course…but as a shy country kid I really didn’t know quite what to do. I loved to try on my mommy’s and sis’s clothes from very pre-pubescent times…didn’t like rough & tumble with the boys…wanted to be a ballerina…but, being gender-identified as a BOY, I know it wouldn’t fly. So, like most of my baby-boom generation, I wasn’t able to openly express the female side of my self…until the Internet opened the world to me! Then began a long process- of awareness & knowledge of my shared condition, my self-acceptance of it, of coming out to others, then family…then psychiatric counseling (of course something was wrong with me!)- and the journey continues. All the agony and frustration has come with wonderful happiness & joy, though- and vice-versa. My marriage & family life has nearly been destroyed, but there still lies hope for a new beginning with my loved ones. Above all else I am truly grateful for being all that I am, now that I am a whole, gender-integrated being at last.

I liken my journey to that of the metamorphosis of a butterfly (not that the guy was ever a sluggish caterpillar!)…and I have taken to glorious wing.
