Genital electrolysis is performed in preparation for Gender Reassignment Surgery, or Sexual Reassignment Surgery or whatever it is that you wish to call it. Hair is permanently removed from parts of the genital area to ensure that after surgery no hair grows where hair would not normally naturally grow on/in a genetic woman. An electrologist will often require documentation from a psychologist stating the reason you wish genital electrolysis performed.

Use your imagination and you can probably figure out why such documentation would be requested. I had heard that genital electrolysis can be pretty painful. Some people require injections such as the dentist might give you to get through it. Some people use only a topical "numbing" cream and some people I hear, use nothing at all. Oh lord. I used an over the counter topical gel. I did not want injections and they add much to the overall cost anyway.

Genital electrolysis progress is usually faster then the face and neck as the hair growth cycle is different and concern for scarring is not as critical. I won't pretend to know that much about it, I just wanted it over with. But I might add that for myself, electrolysis on the face and neck is much more grueling then genital electro was.

- At 8 hours and 30 minutes the required clearing has been completed. Now we just go back over it all killing any stray hair and perhaps widening the cleared area a bit just for good measure. My electrolysis person says that it never hurts to have a little more cleared then is required.
